As notification icons now align with the title, it makes sense for
them to follow the text size in case a text-scaling-factor other
than 1 is applied.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788265
Using a unicode character here means it may look quite different
from the intended style (for instance with emoji fonts). Avoid
this by providing a custom icon and use that instead.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=766368
The legacy tray introduced as part of the notification redesign in
3.16 was meant as a stop-gap solution to encourage applications to
move away from the concept of status icons, but it hasn't really
done anything except of getting in the way. Given that the large
majority of apps that still make use of status icons work perfectly
fine without them, we decided that it is time to drop this unloved
bit of UI altogether. Users who still want them (or use one of the
odd cases where an app really depends on the icon) can install one of
various extensions that are available, either based on the XEmbed
support that is still kept around or implementing the DBus-based
StatusNotifier spec.

While the new title position gives the previews more space, they now
overlay the content which may hide valuable information. Address this
by only revealing the title as additional information on hover, like
we do for other auxiliary elements.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783953
With the window titles no longer being shown as part of the previews
grid, we can reduce the spacing to have more space available to the
window previews themselves.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783953
We consider the window previews the primary way to identify a window,
so it makes sense to give them as much space as possible. So in order
to not have title captions take up too much vertical space, overlay
them on top of the preview borders.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783953
Meson is on track to replace autotools as the build system of choice,
so support it in addition to autotools. If all goes well, we'll
eventually be able to drop the latter ...
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783229
Those will go away when we port authentication prompts to the new
MessageDialogContent widget, so pick the style classes from there
and adjust individual properties with more specific rules to re-
produce the existing style.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=784985
A lot of our modal dialogs share a similar structure:
[Icon] Some title
Maybe a subtitle
And sometimes even a body for stuff like
longer descriptions.
A dedicated widget with a common style will allow us to significantly
reduce duplication of both code and CSS.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=784985
There is a clear difference between the file name and its associated
description which the mockups clearly highlight. Consequently,
make the description label semitransparent, in order to emphasize
the file name, not the description itself.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749957
The current size of the text is way bigger than what
we want now. The default front size is what we are
looking after, therefore no explicit value is needed
to specify the font size.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749957
The current separator uses a gradient effect as a separator
between search results. As the mockups suggest, the gradient
separator is no longer needed, in favor of a more simple one,
which is a thin semitransparent line.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749957
In order to match the current mockups, the providerIcon
class needed to include both the name of the provider
and the label that informs the user about how many more
search results are available for that specific provider.
The latter replaces the plus sign icon that has been
used so far.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749957
In order to make gnome-shell search functionality fit on
smaller screens, like those of devices, search results
need to take advantage of more horizontal space so that
any extra space can be used efficiently.
In order to do so, change the layout of the ListSearchResult
class from a vertical one, to a horizontal one and also
decrease the padding of the list-search-result-content css
class.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749957
The user list uses the same indication for hover and focus, so it
is possible for two items to be highlighted at the same time. Using
different styling would improve the situation, but only to some
extent - the user would still need to figure out which highlight
corresponds to which activation method. So instead, copy the
approach we use in popup menus and use a single property for
highlights that is updated by both focus- and hover changes.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=772284
GTK+ switched from ruby-based sass to c-based sassc for performance
reasons. It makes sense to follow suit, if not to not require two
tools for the same job ...
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783210
The solid black top bar we currently use works well for maximized
or tiled windows, as it puts focus on the application content by
blending into the monitor bezel. However it also visually reduces
the screen space, which is particularly noticeable when no window
is located nearby. Having the top bar blend with the background is
a better option in that case, so track window positions and add
some transparency when the top bar is free-floating.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=747163
The usual expectation when selecting large fonts is for content to
be bigger, not that less content is displayed. While not always
possible, there's no reason not to scale modal dialogues with the
font size.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=782000
Media notifications currently always show the forward and backward
buttons as clickable, regardless of whether the corresponding action
is available or not. Media players usually address this by rendering
controls insensitive in this case, so do the same here.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773884
Update the notification style according to the latest mockups:
- make notification icons smaller and prefer symbolic variants
- remove background box when not hovered/focused
- increase spacing between elements
- use normal text sizes
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=775763
The section titles usually don't provide a lot of value - messages
themselves are usually pretty unambiguous about their type, and
having a hidden shortcut to some settings panel or application isn't
essential either - except when showing the selected date when browsing
other days, as it adds context to the listed events. Based on that,
remove the section title as a general MessageListSection feature and
move it into the EventsSection, where we only show it when it is useful.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=775763
We will eventually remove section titles from the message list to
reduce visual noise and give the actual information provided by
the messages more space. So in order to not lose the ability to
mass-dismiss messages, the latest mockups spot a "Clear All" button
at the bottom - implement that.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=775763
Similar to the Clocks integration we've had in the date+time drop-down for
a while, the designs have called for a similar section that integrates
GNOME weather as well. Use the WeatherClient added in the previous commit
to implement that section and add it to the popover.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=754031
Update according to the latest mockups:
- don't use a border around the list as specified
by the latest HIG version
- use more generous spacing between controls
- allow extension descriptions to take up two lines
- drop GNOME branding from the window title
- make the app name consistent with the window title
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=778672
When gnome-shell fails to start on login, gnome-session tries to
re-launch it again with all extensions disabled. This is currently
implemented by clearing the list of enabled extensions, which means
the user needs to re-enable their extensions manually again.
To make this process less annoying, add a single 'kill-switch' setting
gnome-session can use without interfering with the user setting.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=778664
This is an implementation of the pad OSD that's been previously
present in gnome-settings-daemon. Since things are moving closer
to the compositor, it makes sense to have this implemented as shell
UI.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771067
Nowadays, the user interface has mostly stabilized with most changes
happening under the hood. As a result, extensions written for previous
versions of GNOME Shell are very much expected to keep working on
updates, if it wasn't for the version check that requires a version
bump in the extension metadata. There has been a setting to disable
that check for a while, but it's existence isn't widely known (hence
the common perception that "everything breaks on updates"). While
there is still some risk that an out-of-date extension can be enabled
without error, but fails spectacularly later (where we cannot catch
the exception), it is reasonably small by now when compared to the
~95% of extensions that can be "unbroken", so swap the default value
to disable version checks by default.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770887
Commit bd6e7f14d1 reimplemented the cycle keybindings to
fix cycling between more than two windows, but the approach
of highlighting cycled windows by actually focusing them has
the drawback that cycling messes up the MRU order of windows.
To fix this, only change the window focus when the operation
finishes, and use a dedicated actor that draws a border around
a window clone for highlighting.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771063
intltool is unmaintained nowadays while upstream gettext gained
support for formats like GSettings schemas and .desktop files,
and offers a mechanism to teach it about other XML formats not
yet supported out of the box which we can use for the rest.
So there's nothing stopping us, just make the switch ...

If a sandboxed app requests access to some system resource (camera,
microphone, location), the portal frontend needs to ask the user
for permission. In GNOME, we want this to be a system modal dialog,
so provide an org.freedesktop.impl.portal.access implementation
that exposes a generic system modal permission dialog on the bus.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=768669
We currently use the :active pseudo class to mark the selected day
in the calendar. Whenever the selected date changes, the class is
added to the corresponding button and removed from all others.
However when the selected date doesn't change (i.e. when clicking
the already selected date), the buttons are not updated and the
use of the :active class conflicts with StButton's builtin handling
of the class - the class is removed on the button up event and the
button is deselected.
Fix this by simply using a different pseudo class.

If we detected that Bluetooth devices were setup, show the Bluetooth
menu so that users can easily turn Bluetooth back on.
This is a bit of a hack, as we cannot detect whether there is a
Bluetooth adapter at all when it's disabled, so we cannot tell whether
there were any Bluetooth devices setup, at some point. This state is
saved in the gnome-shell GSettings in the had-bluetooth-devices-setup
key.
Checking whether we saw Bluetooth devices at one point is a good
enough guess of whether there will be some in the future.

For menus, it makes more sense to pick a width that fits a reasonable amount
of content rather than a fixed amount of screen estate, so use font-relative
sizes instead of pixel values.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=754581
Some labels in the system status menu - namely network names - are out
of our control, and may thus grow the width "infinitively" unless we
restrict the menu width. So far we have been doing this by setting a
fixed width or max-width, but any value we put there might end up
being too restrictive in some locales. Instead, request a width that
fits all the labels we want to show unellipsized and use that instead
of an arbitrary limit.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708472
The code previously tried to stop spinner after it was hidden, but
due to an incorrect check was only stoppig it after it was shown.
Also, it was only stopping after hiding due to an animation, and
failing to stop it in the non-animated case.
This left the spinner hidden and running while VT switched away
from the login screen, only stopping when the auth prompt was
reset when switching back.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=753891
* switch to a one-column layout (and adjust strings/widths
accordingly
* remove separator before system menu
* add link to account settings to user submenu for consistency
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=751377
Follow the design we have in gtk+ for buttons dialogs,
which are at the bottom and they expand full width, having
the same amount of space for each one.
Also, since this removes any space for non-button widgets
in the button area, move the spinner present in the auth prompt
dialog next to the password entry.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746108
We now stopped using notification actors directly for anything, so
we can simplify the Notification class significantly by turning it
into a purely informational object others can use to built their UI
representation from.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746343
Since we stopped special-casing chat notifications to use the old
notification actor, we need to provide a notification banner to
maintain the inline chat functionality, so split out the UI from
the existing ChatNotification class.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746343
The .selected style class indicates the "active" menu item, which
is generally the last hovered or focused one (whichever happened
last). Styling that instead of :focus and :hover directly guarantees
that only a single item will be selected at a time, which removes
ambiguity and matches the behavior of GTK+ menus.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745246
Commit 5a8923ef95 removed support for legacy status icons from
the notification system, as we no longer want them to appear as
notifications. As we are unfortunately not quite at a point where
we can remove all support for them for good, so we now need an
alternative place to put them. Add a small dedicated tray at the
bottom which appears when any legacy status icons are active. By
default it is almost completely hidden to not interfere with the
user's windows, but can be expanded on demand to interact with
the icons.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745162
With the message tray no longer being a distinctive UI element,
the existing <super>m shortcut for viewing the notification list
is no longer mnemonic. It is also less convenient as it requires
both hands with most keyboards. So make <super>v the new default
to _view_ notifications, which matches the corresponding Windows
default.
The previous default is kept as secondary shortcut to ease the
transition.

GNOME Shell throws the following warning message:
'St-WARNING **: Too many values for border-radius property.'
Was fixed with just remove the last '0' on the 'border-radius'
property in the '.tile-preview-left.on-primary' class on both files:
gnome-shell.css and gnome-shell-high-contrast.css.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744900
We no longer have a single notification actor that is either displayed
as banner or reparented to the summary depending on state - both the
lock screen and the notification section of the message list create
their own UI based on the information attached to the notification
object. Adding to this that different representations of a notification
may now exist simultaneously (as they are included in the message list
immediately rather than after the banner has been displayed), it no
longer makes sense to keep the banner actor in the notification itself.
Add a new NotificationBanner class that provides a separate banner
implementation based on the message list's NotificationMessage that will
soon replace the existing notification banners.
The message tray is now empty and about to be removed, so an indication
at the bottom edge of the overview becomes an odd location to convey the
status of the summary. We will eventually display an indication in the
top bar that unseen messages are available, for now just remove the
existing indicator.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744850
The notification list in the calendar drop-down now functions as summary
area, so we can drop it from the message tray and remove a lot of complexity
from the state machine.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744850
Display notifications that have not been dismissed in the message
list - eventually this will replace the existing message tray summary.
Notification messages show icon, title and one line of the body and
can be clicked to activate the default action. However they cannot be
expanded, so other actions or the full body text are not accessible
in this mode.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744817
Turn the existing EventsList into a MessageListSection and add the
message list to the calendar drop-down. The new events list only
displays events for the currently selected day, but in a more
structured and friendlier way than the old one.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744817
The message list is a scrollable list that will hold sections of
different types of time-related messages like notifications,
calendar events or birthday reminders. When no section displays
any content for the selected date, a placeholder is shown instead.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744817
The new design has the events list on the left and the calendar on the
right, so swap them around and remove the vertical separator between
them in favor of some additional whitespace as in the mockups.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744817
The sass sources now live in a project in GNOME, so they can
be used in multiple projects like gnome-shell-extensions.
Because of that, add gnome-shell-sass as a submodule of gnome-shell
and remove the sass sources from the theme directory.
This used to be the style-class for status icons (i.e. icon-only
top bar items). It got unused a while ago when the class used
by status icons stopped using it - except for the keyboard indicator,
which set the class manually to appear as status icon despite not
being a real icon.
Now that the button highlight is provided by the .panel-button class
on a parent, the obsolete class results in a double border on the
keyboard indicator when active - just drop it from there as well
to fix.
- the goal is to have the items activate even on the edge
sadly this Fitzsiness is only working on the app vault icon
at the bottom, not the regular icons so far.
So we can style it differently than :hover.
We already have a active state for the menu items which includes
more than hover. For example, when the keyboard focus moves to a item
or we select programatically a item.
For this reason we need a style class named active for the meaning we
give to it in menu items, and a pseudo class active with the meaning
CSS has.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=744680
Since widnows decorations with round corners has a special shape,
which when scaled we can't match with a simple border-radius.
So to prevent to show a gap between the caption border and the
caption itself, apply a shadow.
- separator seems to have a semi-opaque top that interfers
with the bottom row of teh calendar
- current day can't have a blue brder on the bottom,
but $borders_color on the sides. Apparently cannot
use non-uniform border colors.
- month pager missing
Currently we animate in both sides, hover on and hover off, and with
200ms. The downside of that it that it feels sluggish when passing with
the mouse hovering few items because the on transition is slow.
Match what gtk did for fix this for list rows hover state at
commit 52e91f1f74ecb943d, animating only on off hover. However,
gnome-shell doesn't support different kind of transitions for its css,
that will be lovely to have a easeOutQuad as well here.
When opening a panel menu, we set it's max-height to the available
work-area height to keep menus with scrollable content from growing
outside the monitor. However a menu that extends all the way down
to the bottom edge does not look great either, so also take margins
into account here.

This DBus API is intended to be used by gnome-control-center's

org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig API ID has at most one label. On

shown together.

The login screen supports showing a banner message which admins
can use to mention login rules or disclaimers.
This message only shows up currently if the user list is enabled.
Most people who want to show a banner message also want to disable

prompted for login credentials instead of when showing the user
list. It also adds a scrollbar if the message is too long.

Currently, multi-day events are shown as individual appointments on each
day. This patch ellipsizes multi-day events to indicate continuation on
the prior or following day (or other time-period.)
The time label spot is now replaced by a box layout that contains the
prefix ellipsis label, the time label and the postfix ellipsis label.
In order to keep the alignment, ellipses are merely invisible (zero
opacity) when hidden.
The ellipses are styled using the events-day-time-ellipses class which,
by default, take the color of the event text.
When RTL is used, the box contents are adjusted accordingly (clutter
does that for us).
An event spanning three days now displays "...All Day..." in the
calendar on the second day.

Performance testing was producing inconsistent values at different
times in the day since the GNOME default background is animated and
sometimes has a single layer, and sometimes two blended layers.
So we have consistent numbers, install a simple animated background
with GNOME Shell that has 40-year long transition ending in 2030,a
and set an environment variable in gnome-shell-perf-tool so that the
background is override with that background. (The background depends
on files installed by gnome-backgrounds; we assume that the person
running performance tests is doing so within the scope of a full
GNOME install.)

Since these settings are now going to be accessed by

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=734483
Having the on/off setting be backed by a boolean in dconf makes sense
anyway but this is mainly to be able to remember the max accuracy set
before user disabled geolocation so that when they enable it next time,
we have the max accuracy level on same value as before.
There hasn't been a real need for this but now we are about to add
geolocation settings in control center and it'll be easiser for
control-center to simply toggle a boolean property rather than to have
to know about and deal with accuracy levels.
Later we might also want to add accuracy level settings to privacy panel
so keeping the accuracy level setting around still. However we no longer
support 'off' accuracy level as the new boolean property covers that.
This also implies that we no longer track available accuracy level,
which made the code a bit hard to follow/maintain.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=722117
It's been broken for quite a bit since we removed Panel.Animation,
and hasn't really ever worked with our new search results. It's also
the only non-remote provider left.
Maybe we'll add it back as a remote provider later, but for now, just
ditch it.
Their use blocks activation of the default button by keyboard, which
is important for accessibility. Use a Clutter.ClickAction instead,
which doesn't have this problem as it only considers mouse events.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710144
The application picker will always open with the view that was last
selected during the session, but the selection is reset on each
restart. This results in some annoyance for users that use the
ALL view exclusively, as they have to toggle views once each
session - the same would apply to exclusive FREQUENT view users
were the defaults to be changed, so the best solution is to simply
make the selected view persistent by storing it in GSettings.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710042
The _background hack was added because the old way the zooming animation
worked, it set the allocation of the workspaces view and thumbnails box
to the final position and used animations to smoothly animate.
During the 3.6 cycle when we added the new search view, Cosimo changed the
way the zoom animation works so that rather than set the final allocation
and animate, we actually do adjust the allocation of the workspaces view
and thumbnails box.
So, as the hack is no longer necessary, we can drop it.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694881
Since the agregate menu does 120% of font-size, make this
for all dropdown arrows in gnome-shell and rename the css
class to make clear that it is used in overall gnome-shell

Until now we had the same svg for hover, active and checked
states in the pagination indicators. Just differentiate between
them using differents svg.

Previously the animation was not entirely according to the mockup.
Now we are closer to the mockup.
The padding for the indicators are decremented, since we need that
to make the animation not too quick. As a drawback, maybe visually
is not as good as before, or the area to click dots is too much little.
Just make that change for now and test it widely, and we can change
that after.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=707565
Since now AllView doesn't have a scrollbar this
padding is not necesary, and will allow to place
the indicators correctly using only the indicators
padding in a upcoming patch.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=707580
In the commit 9a8bf3b was changed the background opacity of overview
icons. That cause that the shadow of the checked state of icons
was too hard, so it seems to be cut off.
Change the opacity of the shadow to solve this.
If a folder view is scrolled, its scrollbar ends up too close to the
content (even partially overlapping it) with the current padding.
Making it much smaller fixes the issue without affecting the content
position - the removed padding will just move to IconGrid's dynamic
padding.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=707662
Organize applications in AllView by pages using the new PaginatedIconGrid
added previously. Pagination is generally a better pattern for collections
than scrolling, as it better suits spacial memory.
Hook into AppDisplay's allocation function to communicate the available
size to the different views before child allocations - this is only
required by the paginated view (as pages must be computed before
calling get_preferred_height/get_preferred_width), but doing it for
all views will guarantee that their dynamic spacing calculation is
based on the same values.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706081
This commit consolidates the styles of the various
message types into one 'login-dialog-message' style
and then adds additional styles on top to cover the
differences.
This allows us to give the message label an initial
style so that is padded properly before any messages
are displayed.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706670
These cause annoying allocation cycle warnings, and it's simpler to
just express our desired layout in terms of nested containers.
Adapt the theme to match as well.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706843
The only point of using a custom container here was to prevent StBoxLayout
from enforcing the wrong request mode based on the orientation. With that
issue fixed, we can simplify the checkbox widget significantly.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703811
Adds 15px padding to all sides of provider icon to have padding
which seems equal to that of list-search-result-content. This aligns the
provider icon vertically with the search result content.
Padding is set to 15px as list-search-result-content has 12px padding
and the outer box (list-search-result) has 3px.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695760
This will replace the indicator painted on the stage right now.
This unfortunately does not work for the recorder triggered by the
keybinding -- we'll simply replace the in-shell code with a keybinding
powered by gnome-settings-daemon.
Swap out the implementation of SystemIndicator with a dummy,
and build the aggregate menu. At the same time, remove the
poweroff and login screen menus, as those were fake aggregate
menus beforehand.
We lose some flexibility as we lose session-mode-based menu
layout, but as each component of the aggregate menu is supposed
to be "smart" in response to updating itself when session
state changes, I believe it's better than a declarative model.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705845
We can't silently replace the old behavior of separate status
icons into a new system. Replace SystemStatusButton with a new
SystemIndicator class which will allow for the flexibility we
need. For now, make it a subclass of Button so that it mostly
feels the same, but we'll soon be swapping it out with a dummy
implementation that the aggregate menu will use.
I think the code cleanup here is worth it.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705845
If the more icon is transparent inside, you can see the provider icon below,
which with some icons (like boxes) looks like the plus has a double stroke.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695581
Right now the whole authPrompt spreads out if a PAM message
comes in that longer than the entry.
This commit changes it to wrap instead, by forcing the
auth prompt to be a fixed width (slightly bigger than
the entry width was sized to previously).
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705037
Remove the Wi-Fi chooser from the menu and put it in a dialog instead.
This frees up the submenu to simply have three items: an rfkill toggle,
a button to show the dialog, and a button to show network settings.
Ideally, we'd autodetect the "needs network" case by user initiation
and automatically show the dialog if needed, but lower-level plumbing
is neccessary, so the menu item to show the dialog is an acceptable
compromise instead.
This is a part of the new system status design, see
https://wiki.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Design/Guidelines/SystemStatus/
for design details.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704670
Replace NMNetworkMenuItem with NMConnectionItem, based on
NMVPNConnectionItem, and replace NMDevice with NMConnectionSection
and NMConnectionDevice.
Since this rips apart NMDevice, and since wi-fi should not be
connection-based, we'll temporarily remove NMDeviceWireless. We'll
add it back in a later commit, along with the new Wi-Fi dialog.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704670
Add an option to limit the appSwitcher to the current workspace. For users
that use workspaces for task separation this more convient then current
behviour. While having to add an option is unfortunate there is no way to make
both groups happy as workspaces usage differes between different users / types
of users.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703538
At some point the Not Listed? button was moved to align it better
in the login screen. That nudging made the "Log in as another user"
button (which uses the same style class) align worse.
This commit removes the padding at the unlock screen.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704318
Make the notifications wider and adjust the padding so they
aren't as tall. Also make the corner radius consistent with the
rest of the theme.
This makes the notifications look better, is more space
efficient, and is consistent with the latest mockups.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702305
Now that we preallocate space for the prompt message there is
a lot of loose space between the entry and the buttons.
This commit helps tighten things up by getting rid
of the large top padding set above the login buttons.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702308
Moving from fixed width to horizontal padding for the app view control
buttons broke the focus style, in that buttons may change size on
keyboard focus changes. Fix this by using the correct horizontal padding
when focused.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703807
There are some issues with the existing session menu. First, it looks
kinda bad. It seems like it's hanging around there, but it doesn't really know
what to do with itself.
Second, when it expands down it requires that the buttons below move
down with it. This kind of movement is awkward and looks a bit weird.
Third, its current position makes the "dialog" tall and unwieldy when
you add things like messages for fingerprint readers or authentication errors.
This commit moves the session list to a menu behind a button to address
the above problems.
Based on a patch by Jasper St. Pierre.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702818
The login screen is no longer even remotely dialog-like, so
using ModalDialog is pretty weird. It also makes it difficult
to put the session list in the same place as the spinner.
This commit moves loginDialog away from using modal dialog.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702818
The code here before was trying to play hierarchy tricks to
figure out how to show / hide the events list, which broke
when we rearranged how the date menu was laid out. Simplify
the code here to not be so tricky, and update the CSS to
match the new designs.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702849
In order to have event descriptions on multiple lines, but still
maintain proper alignment with the day and time strings, refactor
the whole event list to be one big table. Headers are implemented
as spanning cells, and uneven spacing is a mix of row/column spacing
and cell padding.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=701231
When adding the window switcher, we copied our default values from
the alternate-tab extension. Arguably it makes more sense to mimick
the old mutter/metacity behavior though, so change the default
accordingly.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=701214
When the dash does not contain any applications (either favorites
or running), it is currently impossable to add a favorite via DND.
Grow the dash slightly in that case to provide a drop target.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=684618
Before, the text of those buttons were truncated when the text exceeded
the fixed width we had in the CSS.
Now, we give more horizontal space to the control buttons to match
the maximum text length of all buttons.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696307
The session chooser list has an embedded look which doesn't fit
well with the rest of the theme. Give it more of a flat appearance
and simplify the visuals.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695742
Like screenshots, the screen recorder can be a useful tool in other cases
than being triggered by a keyboard shortcut. To account for that, export
a Screencast DBus API similar to the existing Screenshot interface.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696247
The optional logo on the login screen is currently shown in the
top bar, which is not only a rather unprominent position, it also
gives the wrong suggestion of a clickable element.
Newer designs call for the logo to be shown horizontally centered
at the bottom of the screen, so implement that instead.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694912
Since [1], GIO supports generic serialization and deserialization of a
GIcon into a GVariant. This is also implemented by GdkPixbuf and could be
used instead of our homegrown code for it.
This commit adds support to another 'icon' key in the metas dictionary
returned by applications for it. The previous 'gicon' and 'icon-data'
keys are still parsed and supported as before, but are now deprecated.

This makes it easy to replace the dot with another label in the future.
Change the allocation logic, as text layout is more complicated than
simple icon logic.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698427
This is a new, regular keybinding for going to the overview.
The default binding is Super-S, which goes well with Super-A
for going to the application grid.
This is separate from the existing panel-main-menu keybinding,
so that we can keep Alt-F1 opening the main menu in classic mode.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698251
In order to use a different spinner image in classic mode (or any
other mode specific style), get it from CSS rather than hardcoding
a particular image.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693688
This causes very low performance in some situations (like multiscreen). Proper
fixes are too invasive at this point (3.8.1) so lets just remove the shadow
for now and add it back later once he have fixed it.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697274
The login dialog has a maximum height set to prevent the user list
from growing indefinitively. However this approach fails if the
monitor height is smaller as said maximum, so add some additional
top/bottom padding to make sure there's some whitespace above/below
the user list in that case as well.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=685851
Commit 7b3a689aad changed the border-radius of the hover effect
to match the prelight effect, but not the focus indication, so
the focused item now changes corners on hover. Fix this by using
a consistent border-radius.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691578
In order to center the view selector, the dash has been moved to a
separate layer, which means that it will overlap the app picker and
search results if the available width is smaller than the maximum
width that the content will request. Fix this by adding enough
horizontal padding to account for the width the dash will have at
its largest icon size.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695471
gnome-panel is going away in 3.8, so we can't rely on it to provide our
friendly and reliable companion. But no regret, because we can ship it
ourselves, and at the same time remove some unnecessary configuration.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695526
Application view: the radius of the corners on the hover effect
should match the radius of the prelight effect that is used for
running apps. Original fix from Bharath Thiruveedula.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691578
Implement a basic OSD popup that shows an icon and optionally a label
and a fill level. It is based on the existing OSD implementation in
gnome-settings-daemon, which it will replace.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613543
Particularly when using asian languages the symbol could become large
enough to not fit in the space we have and we'd end up with a totally
ellipsized item.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695001
We add some horizontal padding to the AllView's content to make
sure content does not end up underneath the scrollbar; while this
is not required in case of the FrequentView which does not have
a scrollbar, applying the same padding ensures that both views
end up with the same spacing, which makes switching between them
less disruptive.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694261
If the AllView is scrolled, the vertical scrollbar will take away
some horizontal space on one side, resulting in the content ending
up slightly off-center.
Account for this by using overlay-scrollbars instead.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694261
The frequent view should not be scrolled, but to work around the
icon grid overflowing, we used a (non-scrolling) scroll view anyway.
Now that IconGrid:fillParent allows us to avoid overflow, we can
remove this hack.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694256
The user widget is the username and avatar shown on
the unlock dialog.
The login dialog has something very similar.
This commit separates the user widget out to its own
file, so we can use it from the login dialog in a
later commit.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694062
According to the design mockups, the app picker should follow the
recent view pattern as used by applications, where the user is first
offered a subset of applications he/she is likely to start, and only
then allow switching to the full set of installed applications.
So implement the ability to manage several views in AppDisplay and add
FrequentView as additional view, which uses the existing ShellAppUsage
to display a list of frequently used applications.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694192
App folders are intended for grouping some applications, not to
assign a category to every single application, so we will only
create folders for a selected subset of the existing categories.
Software/Alacarte will eventually allow to create/modify those
folders, so store the setting in GSettings so that it can be
shared with those applications.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694192
With categories removed, the separation between AllAppDisplay and
ViewByCategories no longer makes sense. Also use this opportunity
to rename the outdated AllAppDisplay to AppDisplay; it will
eventually be used to manage different views.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694192
All the complexity with a custom actor and a generic container was
just to add some padding below the overview controls. Remove that,
and use CSS instead.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694100
Account for the search entry space at the bottom (the former message
tray clone) individually in each side control, instead of packing
another actor in the overview.
This allows us to extend the central view all the way to the bottom,
while still keeping controls centered vertically.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693987
Don't show the message tray in the overview by default. From now on the
message tray in overview behaves as regularly, i.e. it will slide up the
overview on Super+M keypress.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693987
Make it look more like the mockups.
In order to do that we stop using PopupMenu and friends as it doesn't
really buy us anything and just makes it more cumbersome to add the
style classes we need.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691902
Document and enforce that a meta ID corresponds to the result ID
that we've passed in. This does not break any existing search providers
as far as I'm aware.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693836
The message tray currently operates in three modes: in the overview,
normal, and while the on-screen keyboard is up. The last case is
particularly odd, and exclusively used for chat-notifications. As
users can still use the Chat application directly on touch-only
devices, the additional mode isn't really justified, so remove it.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662687
Since the panel affects struts, if we change its height on mode
transitions, windows will move around which is particularly noticable
with maximized windows when coming out of the screen shield.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692966
This, together with the panel's transparent background in the screen
shield, has the unfortunate side-effect of showing the desktop
background in a brief flash while coming out of the screen shield.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692966
The designs says that only music notifications should be shown in full
in the screenshield, the others should be either shown as a summary or
with very light details.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=685926
On large displays, we don't want the search results list to expand
across the whole screen; set a maximum width of 1000px.
Unfortunately, since in St max-width only affects size requisition, we
need a little custom layout manager to have it applied to the allocation
too.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692453
The way it currently exists is awkward and not how most virtual buttons
work. This patch causes the "clicked" look to occur when the button is held.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692319
Switching style on Overview::hiding creates a weird effect, as the noise
texture is shown while the overview is still visibile. Instead, wait for
the tray to be fully hidden, then apply the new style.
As now the switch is invisible, there is no need for the transition
(which introduced the same problem on overview showing)
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689091
Add an style class targetting workspaces located outside the overview,
and use it for extra padding around the window clones. Padding is passed
down and applied inside LayoutStrategy, consolidating code that previously
handled the bottom side only.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690171
According to css3-transition, transition-duration is expressed
as a time, that is, in seconds or milliseconds. Fix that by
recognizing numbers with units and implicitly converting to
milliseconds after parsing.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681376
Instead of being fuzzy, the menu separators should be a clear
line with a horizontal gradient. This looks better and is
consistent with the mockups.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=641745
The thumbnail controls are not a separate actor in the overview group
yet, so we need to ensure a spacing between them and the workspaces
view.
Instead of exporting the overview spacing, just add a temporary style
class to the workspaces-view actor for it. It will be removed in the
future when we change the layout of overview elements.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690174
Adjust the layout of the overview and window thumbnails to make them
bigger. Also, make the background shade darker to compensate for the
increased thumbnail density.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689876
These are for all search results except apps (and Wanda).
We also simplify a bit the packing of search results, which removes some
ugly code in navigateFocus() where we needed to call
st_widget_navigate_focus() twice, since the grid icon was composed by
two nested boxes, both focusable.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681797
Display a '+' icon on the provider icon if there are more results that are
hidden. If the provider icon is clicked, ask the provider to launch itself and
perform a search with the current terms.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681797
We are going to change the interface, so add a new version of it.
Providers will need to opt-in to the new API.
A summary of the differences compared to the previous API:
- ActivateResult() now also takes the search terms and a timestamp as
parameters
- a new LaunchSearch() method is added
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689735
Now that we use the new 'switch-applications' keybinding for the
application-based alt-tab popup, we can use the 'switch-windows'
keybinding for a more traditional switcher.
Based heavily on the alternate-tab extension from Giovanni Campagna.

Message tray: modify bubble scrollview notification padding to
have the same padding at right, bottom, top and left since
having different padding make scrollbar looks missaligned.
Also adjust border radius of bubble to not clash the scrollbar.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688393
We need to do a better job of indicating login process. This can
sometimes take a few seconds (particularly if you get your password
wrong): we need to give better feedback of what's going on.
This adds a spinner next to the login button if the authorization takes
some time.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687113
The login dialog had these issues:
- the entry was not really disabled, you could still edit text
- the sensitivity state was not reset on verification failure
- the session list was not disabled
The unlock dialog had these issues:
- "Login as another user..." was not insensitive
- redundant password char setting, overwriting the one given by the
question
The entry insensitive style was also wrong.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687113
Windows in the overview should be highlighted when hovered, to indicate
they are an active target.
Based on a patch by Marc Plano-Lesay <marc.planolesay@gmail.com>
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=665310
At the moment, only the mouse can be used to focus and answer a chat
notification.
This adds a new keybinding (defaults to <Super>+n) to focus and expand
the active notification.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=652082
When it isn't focused, the search box can be quite hard to see.
The text/icon/border color is changed to be brighter in order to increase
contrast with the dark background and this works well with various
wallpapers.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686479
I've heard quite a bit of feedback from people who want to log out,
even if they are the sole user on their system. It doesn't seem worth
alienating them over this; so add a setting to make the 'Log out' item
always show up.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686057
The transparent background for available/unavailable IM status menu
makes the text difficult to read.
Simplifies that by using the default combo-popup background instead of a
custom one.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658091
The current insensitive style for buttons needs to be improved. Right
now we just change the text color: this doesn't make it clear that the
button is actually insensitive.
Instead of just changing the text color, we make the button background
almost transparent. We also make the text color the same as the border
color, use a thinner border.
This patch also simplifies some border rule overwrites to emphasis
only the border width is changed on focus, and makes the button look
closer to the mockups.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687110
Change the layout strategy to be more like the mockups. With less than
two rows of windows, we try to fit every window in a non-aligned situation;
with more than three rows of windows, we try to fit every window in an
aligned situation.
Based heavily on a patch from Pierre-Eric Pelloux-Prayer <pelloux@gmail.com>
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582650
This is a workaround for power users for the "Show Apps" button
placement being too inconvenient to press at the bottom of the
dash favorites list.
Unity also uses Super+A to show the Apps lens.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=685738
The application menu is currently unusable with non-maximized
windows when using focus-follows-mouse mode. Override mutter's
focus-change-on-pointer-rest preference, so that the actual
focus change is delayed until the pointer stops moving.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=678169
Currently the layout of the password prompt differs slightly between
login dialog and unlock screen - for the former, the prompt is
displayed next to the user avatar, replacing the user name, for
the latter, it is diplayed below both avatar and name.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=685201
The message tray is now modal and pushes the view up, but the keyboard
is shown below it. Solve this by applying a special styling to the
keyboard and message tray combination, and by not pushing the windows
up when the keyboard is shown.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=683546
The speed and quality properties have been removed in favor of properties
closer to the upstream library.
Removing the properies from the pipeline would result into a huge
slowdown so we have to map the old values to the new ones.
According to the source code of the old vp8enc element quality maps to
(int)(63 - quality * 6.2) for min_quantizer and max_quantizer, while
speed maps to cpu-used = speed == 0 ? 0 : (speed - 1).
So set min_quantizer and min_quantizer to 13, and cpu-used to 5 based on
the above formulas.

The selector for insensitive popup menu items was wrong (a PopupMenuItem is
a ShellGenericContainer, not a StButton). Fixing it showed that previous
:insensitive tracking was manual for a reason: we have many items that are
not reactive, but don't want the insensitive styling (for example those in
the battery menu).
Fix it by adding a new style-class, popup-inactive-menu-item, that is added
to all new PopupMenuItems that are not activatable.

They are bigger and show an ellipsis if the count goes over 99. They
now have a blurred background and a drop shadow based on
data/theme/close-window.svg.

The special padding rules for submenu items currently ensure that
content aligns properly when the scrollbar is shown. While they
work nicely for the network menu, it looks odd for non-scrolled
submenus, so make this case explicit by introducing a :scrolled
pseudo class and adjust the style rules to use it.

The searchProvider interface originally used a GetResultMeta method to
return meta data of a single id; when it was changed to GetResultMetas,
the return value was not updated accordingly.

Instead of showing a notification, add a small message immediately
below the entry, and give the user two more attempts to login,
before going back to the welcome or lock screen.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682544
Change the padding values of #summary-mode to be 6px on right and left
to match the values in .summary-source, which determine the padding
between the top and bottom edges of the tray and the items.

Introduce a StShadowHelper to manage drop shadows from JS (which
cannot use Cogl directly), and use it in a new StWidget-derived
JS class to draw the arrow.

User testing has shown that it is not discoverable that the whole
lock screen can be dragged. A new mockup includes more arrows
and a short animation every 4 seconds.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682285
Each summary icon is 48x48 with a padding of 6px on each side. Thus,
each summary item is 60px wide. Therefore the summary mode should be
60px high instead of 72px.
Changed the tray actor to use a ClutterBinLayout so that it honors the
y-expand property of its children.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682248
The height of an unexpanded notification could include expanded
content if the notification has extra widgets (like actions and images),
so tweening to that cause it to expand visually.
Instead, use the height of the message tray before the restyle
as an upper bound.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682738
This makes the workspace indicator respect the "padding" style attribute.
Also, since we no longer draw the border on top of the thumbnail,
we need to be pixel-precise in allocating the indicator height.
We use this to make the workspace selector more similar to the mockup.

The fingerprint message is useful for users that click their
names in the user list to let them know if fingerprint login
is available.
This same place on screen (below the login entry) can potentially
be used for other messages as well.
This commit changes the variable and style names surrounding
this feature to be more generic.
A subsequent commit will leverage this functionality to provide
a hint on how to log in to the local enterprise domain controller
(if relevant).
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681975
This will help to ensure that it doesn't distract from the other
elements in the overview, such as the dash, window thumbnails and
workspace switcher.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682342
In the new designs, we no longer need favRemoveTarget. As it shares a lot
of its functionality with the new showAppsIcon, we refactor and restyle it
accordingly.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682109
The original design for the overview had buttons for searching for
Wikipedia and Google, but in practice this is a bad idea. The buttons
are the default activations, meaning that using the overview as a
fluent motion of launching something - "firefxo<Enter>", will launch
Google/Wikipedia.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670168
We don't need .summary-source-button:selected because we are moving the
focus to the summary item when it is clicked and therefore it is always
focused.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681519
The currently used style works well in "normal" mode, where the
tray is shown to be located beneath the window layer (pushing the
latter up when revealed). It does not work very well in the overview,
so use the same style as dash and workspace switcher there.
Reduce padding around persistent sources, and ensure that spacing
around resident notifications is only applied once.
Also, add some padding to the clock.

Unlike the fallback gdm UI, we do not indicate in the user list
whether a user already has an open session or not. This information
is useful, so use a spotlight effect similar to the running-app
indicator to mark logged in users.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658185
We want to style user list items differently depending on whether
the list is expanded or shrunk; instead of manually updating the
items' style, we can just expose the :expanded style on the list
itself and use that in the CSS.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658185
Until the recent style changes, the same element was used to indicate
both item focus and progress for timed logins. As focus is now indicated
by the item's background style, rename the indicator from focusBin to
timedLoginIndicator and make some minor adjustments to better fit the
new style:
- move it next to the icon below the text
- give it a white color and a shadow
- update animation to grow from the left instead of the center
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660913
Rather than changing the text color to indicate hover and an underline
to mark the focused item, use the same semi-transparent white background
as in the overview.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660913
Track screen lock status in the message tray, and filter banner
notifications. The message tray is completely hidden when the screen is
locked, but exceptions can be made for individual transient notifications,
such as shell messages and the on screen keyboard.
Non transient sources are shown in the middle of the lock screen. Resident
notifications (such as those from Rhythmbox) are shown in full, while
persistent ones are displayed as icon and message count.

The design calls for the curtain to appear in the gdm greeter too.
Implement this by having the screenshield manage the login dialog
(delegating its creation to SessionMode).
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619955
This separates the screen shield into two main screens. One is
the lock screen, and it is shown when coming back from idle status
and when failing authentication. The other is the actual unlock
dialog.
Moving from the first to the second is possible by pressing Escape
or by dragging an arrow on the bottom on the screen.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619955
When the screenshield is deactivated, instead of going back to the
session immediately, prompt the user for authentication.
This essentially reinstates what used to be provided by gnome-screensaver.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619955
We are replacing the gnome-screensaver module with with a screen shield
that is part of gnome-shell.
This patch fades out the screen on idle and shows a shield with a background
image when there is activity again. The shield can be removed with a key or
button press.

Style updates to match current mockups. Give panel menus a
opaque black background, remove the border from notification
boxpointers and give them a bigger pointer.
While modal dialogs were attached to the parent's titlebar, it
made sense to leave the top of the parent window at full color.
With the new position of modal dialogs, it makes more sense to dim
the entire parent window, so we can use a combination of Clutter's
BrightnessContrast- and DesaturateEffect instead of our own custom
shader.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674499
The log messages about presence changes unnecessarily cluttered the
notification.
Instead, we now present the presence states (online, offline, away, busy)
with an icon placed right next to the avatar. We also no longer show
notifications on presence changes.
