0e4c6d0a87 Deprecate clutter_threads_enter()/leave()
Acquiring the Clutter lock to mark critical sections is not portable,
and not recommended to implement threaded applications with Clutter.

The recommended pattern is to use worker threads, and schedule UI
updates inside idle or timeout handlers within the main loop. We should
enforce this pattern by deprecating the threads_enter()/leave()
functions. For compatibility concerns, we need internal API to acquire
the main lock during frame processing dispatch.

26d8ad7479 Be resilient in case there is no device manager
It's possible to run Clutter with the 'null' input backend, which means
that clutter_device_manager_get_default() may return NULL. In the future
we may add a default dummy device manager, but right now it's safer to
just add a simple NULL check in the places where we ask for the device
manager.

671ead6681 Rename cogl_framebuffer_swap_* apis to cogl_onscreen_swap_*
Recently the cogl_framebuffer_swap_* apis were moved into the
cogl_onscreen_* namespace since only CoglOnscreen framebuffers can be
double buffered. This renames all uses of the cogl_framebuffer_swap_*
apis in Clutter.

2628ba70cd Fix clutter-bakend-win32.c
The VBLANK environmental variable is done universally in clutter-main.c
as in commits e8562089 (main: Add a sync-to-vblank global flag) and
db211a21 (Remove per-backend CLUTTER_VBLANK envvar), so remove these things
here as well.

17c89bd0a0 backend: Clean up the device manager creation
Create the device manager during the event initialization, where it
makes sense.

This allows us to get rid of the per-backend get_device_manager()
virtual function, and just store the DeviceManager pointer into the
ClutterBackend structure.

9c038ebefb stage-window: Add :backend and :wrapper properties
All StageWindow implementation already have back pointers, but we need a
unified API to actually set them from the generic code path; we can use
properties on the StageWindow interface — though this requires fixing
all backends at the same time, to avoid GObject complaining.

80fdbeb954 backend: Provide a default get_features() implementation
Continue gutting ClutterBackendCogl; get_features() is the last bit that
still does something, but now we can use the Cogl API.

4fe7a77302 Replace ClutterGeometry with cairo_rectangle_int_t
We still use ClutterGeometry internally in a couple of places, but we
should really move away from that flawed rectangle data type, and use
the Cairo one.

Sadly, we still have some public API that we cannot remove yet.

a09bbffd92 Implement multi-backend support
The Clutter backend split is opaque enough that should allow us to just
build all possible backends inside the same shared object, and select
the wanted backend at initialization time.

This requires some work in the build system, as well as the
initialization code, to remove duplicate functions that might cause
conflicts at build and link time. We also need to defer all the checks
of the internal state of the platform-specific API to run-time type
checks.

53d9e88135 Remove _clutter_shader_release_all()
This function is called when the backend is being disposed - as a way
of releasing all ClutterShader. This doesn't take into account three
things:

  - ClutterShader is deprecated
  - the Backend is *never* disposed
  - once the process terminates, all its resources are automatically
    released by the OS

So the _clutter_shader_release_all() function is a pointless exercise
in futility.

1776ac8ed5 Remove internal usage of ClutterGeometry in StageWindow
The ClutterGeometry type is a poor substitute of cairo_rectangle_int_t,
with unsigned integers for width and height to complicate matters.

Let's remove the internal usage of ClutterGeometry and switch to the
rectangle type from Cairo.

91ace65cae clutter-stage-win32: Fix name cogl_win32_onscreen_set_foreign_window
Since commit 38b67e2884 of Cogl the naming scheme for winsys-specific
API has changed to be cogl_win32_onscreen_* instead of
cogl_onscreen_win32_* so it wouldn't build on Windows.

71d0872b76 don't call cogl_set_default_context since it's been removed
cogl_set_default_context has been removed from Cogl so this updates
Clutter in-line with that change.

aacdbb4a55 win32: use typesafe cogl_win32_renderer_handle_event
The generic cogl_renderer_handle_native_event API was removed from the
Cogl public API in favour of typesafe functions, so this updates the
win32 backend in line with that change.

2b81d90dd7 Eliminate G_CONST_RETURN
The G_CONST_RETURN define in GLib is, and has always been, a bit fuzzy.

We always used it to conform to the platform, at least for public-facing
API.

At first I assumed it has something to do with brain-damaged compilers
or with weird platforms where const was not really supported; sadly,
it's something much, much worse: it's a define that can be toggled at
compile-time to remove const from the signature of public API. This is a
truly terrifying feature that I assume was added in the past century,
and whose inception clearly had something to do with massive doses of
absynthe and opium — because any other explanation would make the
existence of such a feature even worse than assuming drugs had anything
to do with it.

Anyway, and pleasing the gods, this dubious feature is being
removed/deprecated in GLib; see bug:

Before deprecation, though, we should just remove its usage from the
whole API. We should especially remove its usage from Cally's internals,
since there it never made sense in the first place.

Cogl now has a full WGL winsys so Clutter doesn't need to directly
deal with WGL itself.

7a3d06c55c cogl: remove OSX/WIN32 specific bits in favour of a stub winsys
Until Cogl gains native win32/OSX support this remove the osx and win32
winsys files and instead we'll just rely on the stub-winsys.c to handle
these platforms. Since the only thing the platform specific files were
providing anyway was a get_proc_address function; it was trivial to
simply update the clutter backend code to handle this directly for now.

532b563439 Add temporary cogl-clutter.h to aid splitting out Cogl
This gives us a way to clearly track the internal Cogl API that Clutter
depends on. The aim is to split Cogl out from Clutter into a standalone
3D graphics API and eventually we want to get rid of any private
interfaces for Clutter so its useful to have a handle on that task.
Actually it's not as bad as I was expecting though.

e381a159a7 Remove unused _cogl_swap_buffers_notify
Recently _cogl_swap_buffers_notify was added (in 142b229c5c) so that
Cogl would be notified when Clutter performs a swap buffers request for
a given onscreen framebuffer. It was expected this would be required for
the recent cogl_read_pixel optimization that was implemented (ref
1bdb0e6e98) but in the end it wasn't used.

Since it wasn't used in the end this patch removes the API.

It's only used for debugging purposes, and it's of limited usage since
the stage creation is deferred to the backend implementation itself.

224280be22 backend: Invoke ClutterStageWindow::redraw by default
Instead of asking all backends to do that for us, we can call
ClutterStageWindow::redraw ourselves by default.

This changeset fixes all backends to actually do the right thing, and
move the stage implementation redraw inside the ClutterStageWindow
implementation itself.

Use clutter_event_set_device() instead of setting the device field.

Also, use G_N_ELEMENTS() to determine the size of the key symbols

82d1e5a6ee Clean up crossing event synthesis code
Clutter should just require that the windowing system used by a backend
adds a device to the stage when the device enters, and removes it from
the stage when the device leaves; with this information, we can
synthesize every crossing event and update the device state without
other intervention from the backend-specific code.

The generation of additional crossing events for actors that are
covering the stage at the coordinates of the crossing event should be
delegated to the event processing code.

The x11 and win32 backends need to be modified to relay the enter and
leave events from the windowing system.

142b229c5c cogl: Adds _cogl_swap_buffers_notify for clutter backends
This adds a stop-gap mechanism for Cogl to know when the window system
is requested to present the current backbuffer to the frontbuffer by
adding a _cogl_swap_buffers_notify function that backends are now
expected to call right after issuing the equivalent request to OpenGL
vie the platforms OpenGL binding layer. This (blindly) updates all the
backends to call this new function.

For now Cogl doesn't do anything with the notification but the intention
is to use it as part of a planned read-pixel optimization which will
need to reset some state at the start of each new frame.

9d6a33d0c8 win32: Implement the set_accept_focus() vfunc
Implement the ClutterStageWindow::set_accept_focus() virtual function in
the win32 backend.

If accept_focus is set to be TRUE then we call SetforegroundWindow()
after calling ShowWindow(). This is similar to what GDK does when
dealing with the same situation.
