d3f662fbf2 extensionUtils: Split out extension convenience functions
ExtensionUtils was originally used for shared functions between
the extension system and the (old) prefs-tool, but then gained
useful API meant for extensions themselves.

It's a bit weird to mix the two, so split out the extension convenience
API into a separate module.

We will soon split up the module further, and add specific "flavors"
for extensions and preferences, with the current code providing a
shared base for both.

That should explain both the new location and the odd module name. :-)

26e018206d tests/shell: Fix remaining ESlint errors
All tests are currently excluded from linting, so errors can sneak
in more easily.

We should change that, so quickly fix up any remaining errors.

21e4cb142d lint: Relax jsdoc requirement
Requiring a description for every parameter even in internal

so relax that rule.

fa6a712a34 lint: Transition to gjs' object spacing rule
When gjs overhauled its coding style, it opted for disallowing
spaces around braces in object literals: `{foo: 42}`.

We opted out of that particular rule in commit 09b8e8f, primarily
because it would have been a very intrusive change with the old
style of object literals:

```js
   let oldStyle = { foo: 42,
                    bar: 23 };
```

Alas, all multi-line object literals have been transitioned to
the new style where braces go on separate lines, so they are no
longer subject to the rule one way or the other.

Nowadays the rule mostly affects destructuring, and there it
is a bit odd to apply different spacing rules to arrays and
objects:

```js
    const [foo, bar] = someArray;
    const { baz, quz } = someObject;
```

This is now the main divergence from the canonical gnome style,
and the only one where we directly contradict it.

It would be good to transition away from that, and as the rule
now only affect destructuring and single-line object literals,
we can do that on a case-by-case bases by moving the override
to the legacy configuration.

As desctructuring imports makes up a fair share of the affected
code, and those will change when moving to ES6 modules, this
seems like a good moment to start that transition.

2b45a01517 cleanup: Use new indentation style for object literals
We have made good progress on object literals as well, although there
are still a lot that use the old style, given how ubiquitous object
literals are.

But the needed reindentation isn't overly intrusive, as changes are
limited to the object literals themselves (i.e. they don't affect
surrounding code).

And given that object literals account for quite a bit of the remaining
differences between regular and legacy rules, doing the transition now
is still worthwhile.

bf5129adc1 eslint: (Mostly) synchronize configuration with gjs
In addition to the changes in this commit, gjs now
restricts the use of the Format module and initFormat.
We can't really replace those for translatable strings
until xgettext gains support for template strings, so
leave that bit out for now.

The other notable change is that gjs now requires
jsdoc comments. We can't plainly enable those options
without a massive amount of work first, but let's see
how requiring doc comments for new code goes.

1deb13e1aa extensionUtils: Add gettext convenience helpers
We have initTranslations() for binding an extension's
gettext domain, but nothing to help with using gettext
from an extension.

Such help would be useful though, as an extension that
calls textdomain() like a normal application would
inadvertently changes the default domain for the whole
gnome-shell process.

Instead, extensions have to use domain-specific versions
of the gettext functions:

```js
const Gettext = imports.gettext.domain('my-extension');
const _ = Gettext.gettext;
```

Make this a bit easier by adding those functions directly
to the extensions object when initTranslations() is called,
then expose helper functions for calling them.

JS: migrate from the global window to globalThis
As of mozjs68 (gjs-1.64) `globalThis` is recommended over `window` and
it makes more sense in this context anyways. Migrate the few instances
of `window` we use and adjust the eslint configuration.

`window` will continue to resolve to `globalThis`, so this won't affect
extensions or other downstream users.

39e6375aff extensions-app: Move Extensions app to new subproject
The Extensions app code is now independent enough from the rest of the code
base to move it to its own subprojects, like we did for the extensions-tool.

This allows for stand-alone builds of the app, which we are about to use
for distributing it as flatpak.

0257de1b7e lint: Allow marking variables/arguments as unused
Unused variables or arguments can indicate bugs, but they can also
help document the code, in particular in case of signal handlers
and destructuring.

Account for this by keeping the error, but set up patterns that allow
us to opt out of if for individual variables/arguments. For arguments
we pick a '_' prefix, while for variables we go with a suffix instead,
to not accidentally exempt private module-scope variables.

2a041e9d8d lint: Enforce consistent return
While all javascript functions have a return value - either an explicit
one from a return statement, or an implicit "undefined" - mixing both in

not a bug.

e0457b6dc4 lint: Add "legacy" configuration
Regarding coding style, gjs is moving in a direction that departs quite
significantly from the established style, in particular when indenting
multi-line array/object literals or method arguments:

Currently we are keeping those elements aligned, while the gjs rules now
expect them to use the regular 4-space indentation.

There are certainly good arguments that can be made for that move - it's
much less prone to leading to overly-long lines, and matches popluar JS
styles elsewhere. But switching coding style implies large diffs which
interfere with git-blame and friends, so in order to allow for a more
gradual change, add a separate set of "legacy" rules that match more
closely the style we would expect up to now.

It also disables the rules for quotes and template strings - the former
because we cannot match the current style to use double-quotes for
translatable strings and single-quotes otherwise, the latter because
template strings are still relatively new, so we haven't adopted them
yet.

3731be9947 lint: Import eslint rules from gjs
gjs started to run eslint during its CI a while ago, so there is an
existing rules set we can use as a starting point for our own setup.

As we will adapt those rules to our code base, we don't want those

changes, so include the rules from a separate file rather than using
the configuration directly.
