We currently use no less than three different ways of indenting
object literals:

The first is the one we want to use everywhere eventually, while the
second is the most commonly used "legacy" style.
It is the third one that is most problematic, as it throws off eslint
fairly badly: It violates both the rule to have consistent line breaks
in braces as well as the indentation style of both regular and legacy
configurations.
Fortunately the third style was mostly used for tween parameters, so
is quite rare after the Tweener purge. Get rid of the remaining ones
to cut down on pre-existing eslint errors.

The "in" operator has a lower precedence than negation, so we are
actually testing whether the favorites map contains "false".
Add parentheses to get the intended behavior.

ES6 finally adds standard class syntax to the language, so we can
replace our custom Lang.Class framework with the new syntax. Any
classes that inherit from GObject will need special treatment,
so limit the port to regular javascript classes for now.

When adding a favorite, we add the ID to the list of favorites, save the
setting and add the new app to the favorites map. However as writing the
settings value already results in reload() to update the favorites map,
the new app is usually already in the map when we add it.
The only exception is when the ID was found in the RENAMED_DESKTOP_IDS map,
in which case we end up adding both the renamed app and the original one.
Fix this by simply relying on reload() to properly update the map, just like
we already do in _removeFavorite().

When not using arrow notation with anonymous functions, we use Lang.bind()
to bind `this` to named callbacks. However since ES5, this functionality
is already provided by Function.prototype.bind() - in fact, Lang.bind()
itself uses it when no extra arguments are specified. Just use the built-in
function directly where possible, and use arrow notation in the few places
where we pass additional arguments.

Any symbols (including class properties) that should be visible
outside the module it's defined in need to be defined as global.
For now gjs still allows the access for 'const', but get rid of

Recently Music gained a flatpak manifest inside the repo in bug 779905.
However that requires the desktop file to be properly named like
DBUS addresses are.

We currently assume that if a .desktop file has been renamed (that
is, it is in our rename list), the updated ID will be used. That
assumption was mostly sound when the list contained only GNOME apps
following the same release cycle as gnome-shell, but as applications
with less ties to the GNOME schedule adopt the reverse DNS notation,
it becomes more likely for apps to appear in the list before actually
being updated on the system. Handle this case by only renaming IDs
for which the replacement can be resolved to an existing application.

These were actually renamed in GNOME 3.12, but we couldn't do anything
about it before, and now we can.
This adds a table with mappings for GNOME apps that have recently
renamed their desktop files, and uses that to update the desktop names

This dramatically thins down and sanitizes the application code.
The ShellAppSystem changes in a number of ways:
* Preferences are special cased more explicitly; they aren't apps,
they're shortcuts for an app), and we don't have many of them, so
don't need e.g. the optimizations in ShellAppSystem for searching.
* get_app() changes to lookup_app() and returns null if an app isn't
found. The semantics where it tried to find the .desktop file
if we didn't know about it were just broken; I am pretty sure no
caller needs this, and if they do we'll fix them.
* ShellAppSystem maintains two indexes on apps (by desktop file id
and by GMenuTreeEntry), but is no longer in the business of
dealing with GMenuTree as far as hierarchy and categories go. That
is moved up into js/ui/appDisplay.js. Actually, it flattens both
apps and settings.
Also, ShellWindowTracker is now the sole reference-owner for
window-backed apps. We still do the weird "window:0x1234beef" id
for these apps, but a reference is not stored in ShellAppSystem.
The js/ui/appDisplay.js code is rewritten, and sucks a lot less.
Variable names are clearer:
_apps -> _appIcons
_filterApp -> _visibleApps
_filters -> _categoryBox
Similarly for function names. We no longer call (for every app) a
recursive lookup in GMenuTree to see if it's in a particular section
on every category switch; it's all cached.
NOTE - this intentionally reverts the incremental loading code from
commit 7813c5b93f. It's fast enough
here without that.

Show a positional indicator where a new favorite will be added and

The layout of recent mockups occupies the space previously reserved
for the info bar with the view selector. As the bar's purpose is
mainly to provide the user with feedback, it makes sense to use the

In GSettings, a change notification is generated immediately from context of the _set() call.
In GConf, The "value_changed" signal is emitted whenever the server
notifies your client program that a value has changed in the database (100% NOT from context of the _set() call).

Use GSettings for all Shell configuration. GConf is kept to read
configuration from external programs (Metacity, Nautilus and Magnifier),
but ShellGConf is removed because it's mostly useless for the few calls
we still have. Also get rid of unused GConf code in ShellAppSystem.
A basic GConf schema is still used to override Metacity defaults and
configure Magnifier in a system-wide fashion. GConf is also used as
GSettings backend via the GSETTINGS_BACKEND environment variable.
All of this will be removed when these programs have been ported
to GSettings and able to use dconf.
GLib 2.25.9 is required. Schemas are converted to the new XML format,
and compiled at build time in data/ so that the Shell can be run from
the source tree. This also requires setting the GSETTINGS_SCHEMA_DIR
environment variable both when running installed or from source tree,
in src/gnome-shell.in and src/gnome-shell-clock-preferences.in.

The two parts were mapping windows to applications, and
recording application usage statistics. The latter part
(now called ShellAppUsage) is much more naturally built on top of
the former (now called ShellWindowTracker).
ShellWindowTracker retains the startup-notification handling.
ShellWindowTracker also gains a focus-app property, which is
what most things in the shell UI are interested in (instead of
window focus).
ShellAppSystem moves to exporting ShellApp from more of its
public API, rather than ShellAppInfo. ShellAppSystem also
ensures that ShellApp instances are unique by holding
a hash on the ids.
ShellApp's private API is split off into a shell-app-private.h,
so shell-app.h can be included in shell-app-system.h.
Favorites handling is removed from ShellAppSystem, now inside
appFavorites.js.
Port all of the JavaScript for these changes.
