If graphical applications want to start from systemd units, they need to
start after we're properly ready to display them. This is particularly
important under X where `_GTK_FRAME_EXTENTS` and other xprops are needed
to have the right theming.
We're doing this in an idle callback so that the dynamic starting of
`gnome-session-x11-service.target` (which launches `gsd-xsettings`) as
the result of a signal emission happens before us signalling we're ready
for later things to start.

Get from clutter the capture sizes and scale and don't mind
about doing any rounding here, as it might be different
from the one done at clutter level (causing mismatch and
not-working videos). Delegate this to clutter, and forget
about the internal details.
These values are then used to composte the image and set the video caps.

The Magnifier class uses a small subtree of actors to track the
current cursor's position and sprite. Specifically, it uses the
deprecated ClutterTexture to paint the cursor sprites.
Add a new, very simple ClutterContent implementation to track the
cursor sprite, and replace the ClutterTexture by a ClutterActor.

Add a debug command (to be executed manually via Alt+F2) to check
that all of gnome-shell's file descriptors have the CLOEXEC flag set.
This is important so that internal file descriptors do not get passed
to apps when they are launched.
It prints a warning message for every fd that does not have the flag set.
fdwalk() is used from the standard library if available (it is not
available in glibc), otherwise we use the same implementation as glib
has internally.

When clutter gives us multiple captures (multiple cairo_surface_t's),
composite them into one large image and use that as final screenshot
result. This makes screenshooting work when mutter uses multiple views.

We use the newly introduced feature from Mutter to hook up our own
fullscreen and unfullscreen animations.
To give the illusion of a transition as smooth as possible, we create a
snapshot of the current contents of the actor before its state is
changed, and crossfade between the two states while the size changes.

libcaribou was designed to generate X events which works under wayland
sessions for X clients but obviously doesn't work for wayland clients
and for shell chrome.
This patch adds a simple caribou display adapter which inherits from
its X display adapter and allows us to continue to work for X clients
and at the same time makes the OSK work on shell text entries by
sending key events directly to the focused text actor.
Making the OSK work for wayland clients requires much bigger changes
at various levels in the stack and either not using libcaribou or
re-working it substantially so that's left for future work.

NVIDIA drivers don't preserve FBO contents across suspend / resume
cycles which results in broken backgrounds. We can work around that by
forcing a refresh when coming out of suspend.

We commonly mark strftime format strings for translation to account
for date/time representations without an existing strftime shortcut
("Yesterday %H%p"). As those translations are looked up according to
the locale defined by LC_MESSAGES, while the conversion characters
themselves are resolved according to LC_TIME, the result can be
rather odd when mixing locales ("Den 27. January"). The correct
solution would be to install translations for format strings in
the LC_TIME catalogue and look them up with dcgettext(), but we
don't have the infrastructure to do that easily. Work around this
by adding a helper method that looks up a string in LC_MESSAGES
using the locale defined by LC_TIME and use that to translate
format strings, which has the same result.

Instead of poking through IDLETIME, which confuses the state tracking
and can prevent automatic suspend, send a special signal to GSD
when the screen is to be waken up for a notification.
Someday we'll bring over all the state tracking and avoid this
ping-pong between gnome-shell and gnome-settings-daemon, but
that day's not today.

Rather than scanning all apps for searching, use Ryan's new desktop
file index and the glib support APIs for app searching instead of our
own system.

Mutter now includes an object with the same purpose and functionality
as ShellXFixesCursor, so we can replace our XFixes code with it
and work under wayland too.

Remove the PlacesManager, its search provider and all associated code.
Places search is now provided by nautilus using the external search
provider API.

The original design for the overview had buttons for searching for
Wikipedia and Google, but in practice this is a bad idea. The buttons
are the default activations, meaning that using the overview as a
fluent motion of launching something - "firefxo<Enter>", will launch
Google/Wikipedia.

To allow more than one summary icon actor for a source we split
the model of the source icon (which is iconName, if the default
implementation is used, or a GIcon otherwise) and replace
createNotificationIcon() with a generic createIcon(size). Also,
the actual source actor is split into a separate class, that handles
the notification counter automatically.

While modal dialogs were attached to the parent's titlebar, it
made sense to leave the top of the parent window at full color.
With the new position of modal dialogs, it makes more sense to dim
the entire parent window, so we can use a combination of Clutter's
BrightnessContrast- and DesaturateEffect instead of our own custom
shader.

gnome-shell-extension-prefs uses format(), but can't pull in Shell
(which is a dependency for the module), since that in turn would pull in
Meta. Fix this by moving the introspected int format function to ShellJS
instead.

VPN secrets are stored by the plugins, that provide separate
helpers for authentication. This commit adds the support for invoking
the binaries and pass them connection details.
For plugins that support it (as exposed by their keyfile), we invoke
them in "external-ui-mode" and expect a set of metadata about the
secrets which is used to build a shell styled dialog.

ConsoleKit is being obsoleted by systemd. Accordingly port the CK logic
in the gnome-shell automount manager to systemd-logind APIs.
This makes use of systemd-logind's native C APIs which are much easier
to use than the D-Bus APIs in this case, and much faster too (since they
are synchronous and directly query the kernel for the information we
need). The dependency is compile time optional, and in order to be nice
to the Debian folks g-s compiled with this enabled fill automatically
fall back to CK support on systems lacking systemd.
The way the window dimmer shader is applied will cause rendering errors with
the rounded corners, invisible borders or shaped textures since it doesn't deal
well with the multitexturing used by the MetaShapedTexture. Use an off-screen
buffer to flatten the texture before being applied.

Add a helper function (mostly copied from gtkcalendar.c) for getting
the first week day for the current locale, using nl_langinfo if
available and falling back to the GTK+ gettext fallback otherwise.
Use that function in the calendar, so that the LC_TIME setting is
used if possible.

Unfortunately, gjs cannot handle binary C strings directly from
gobject-introspection. Add a simple workaround method in C to help
us save random files from the web.

shell-global had become a dumping ground for functions that didn't
have anywhere else to be. Make shell-util the dumping ground instead,
and have shell-global only have methods that involve the ShellGlobal

Add a function that gets the current allocation of an actor
transformed into stage coordinates. This avoids a misfeature of
clutter_actor_get_transformed_size() where when a size request is
queued (even if it won't eventually change the size), the returned
value is the transformed size request rather than the last allocation.

Monkey-patch Date.prototype.toLocaleFormat() with a version that uses

format strings with Unicode characters.

At times it is desireable to hide actors from being picked even
with a mode of CLUTTER_PICK_ALL.
Currently we use a pattern of
clutter_actor_hide();
clutter_stage_get_actor_at_pos();
clutter_actor_show();
in these cases, which gets hideous if the actor we want to exclude
from the pick is located in another module.
A more elegant solution is to connect a handler to the ::pick signal,
which stops further emission.
Credit for the idea goes to Owen Taylor.

Add a "gicon" property so that a GIcon can be used instead of an
