Emmanuele Bassi 54b5d07682 [build] Add AS_COMPILER_FLAGS ...

Use the AS_COMPILER_FLAGS to check whether the maintainer compiler flags
we use are supported; this should fail gracefully and only use the ones
that the compiler actually understands.
