66e23b009c wayland: Make subsurface actors unreactive early during destruction
When unmapping a subsurface, it does lose early its connection to the
parent surface. This is however a deciding factor in determining whether
the surface (role) has a window.

Make the subsurface actor unreactive if its connection to the parent
MetaWindow was severed, since it should not be eligible for picking anymore.

5749810ddb Revert "wayland/subsurface: Drop unapplied subsurface state on unmap"
This reverts commit 35d92e0faca5f8faaf1393e467d8ddb43c84db92.

This turned out to cause trouble, because it can prevent
MetaWaylandSurface::applied_state.subsurface_branch_node from ever
getting linked up for a sub-surface.

It shouldn't be necessary anyway, since permanently_unmap_subsurface /
wl_subcompositor_get_subsurface reset the sub-surface state as defined
by the protocol.

b67f94ca7e wayland/subsurface: Hold sibling surface reference in placement ops
It was possible for the sibling surface to be already destroyed in
meta_wayland_transaction_add_placement_surfaces, in which case
g_object_ref would return NULL for it, and
meta_wayland_transaction_commit would then crash dereferencing a NULL
surface pointer.

225f7d46a3 wayland/subsurface: Check ancestor instead of toplevel window for actor sync

8af356c2c7 wayland/subsurface: Implement meta_wayland_surface_get_window()
Subsurfaces are special regarding windows as they don't have a window,
but usually have an ancestor which does. All current users of
`get_window()` are either used for known surface roles, such as xdg-*
ones, or, as is the case for pointer constrains, would actually want to
get the ancestors window.

Thus implement `get_window()` to allow pointer constrains to work.

05efcb4b21 wayland/surface: Overhaul handling of buffer use count
Move the use count from a separate MetaWaylandBufferRef struct to the
MetaWaylandBuffer class, and remove the former.

The buffer use count is now incremented already in
meta_wayland_surface_commit, since the Wayland protocol defines the
buffer to be in use by the compositor at that point. If the buffer
attachment ends up being dropped again before it is applied to the
surface state (e.g. because another buffer is committed to a
synchronized sub-surface before the parent surface is committed),
the use count is now decremented, and a buffer release event is sent if
the use count drops to 0.

Buffer release events were previously incorrectly not sent under these
circumstances. Test case: Run the weston-subsurfaces demo with the -r1
and/or -t1 command line parameter. Resize the window. Before this
change, weston-subsurfaces would freeze or abort after a few resize
operations, because mutter failed to send release events and the
client ran out of usable buffers.

v2:
* Handle NULL priv->buffer_ref in
  meta_wayland_cursor_surface_apply_state.
v3:
* Remove MetaWaylandBufferRef altogether, move the use count tracking
  to MetaWaylandBuffer itself. Much simpler, and doesn't run into
  lifetime issues when mutter shuts down.
v4:
* Warn if use count isn't 0 in meta_wayland_buffer_finalize.
* Keep pending_buffer_resource_destroyed for attached but not yet
  committed buffers. If the client attaches a buffer and then destroys
  it before commit, we ignore the buffer attachement, same as before
  this MR.
v5:
* Rebase on top of new commit which splits up surface->texture.
* MetaWaylandSurfaceState::buffer can only be non-NULL if
  ::newly_attached is TRUE, simplify accordingly.

80c6b7d82b wayland/surface: Use transactions for all sub-surface hierarchy changes
And keep track of the hierarchy separately for the Wayland protocol and
for output. Protocol state is updated immediately as protocol requests
are processed, output state only when the corresponding transaction is

  pending_state.
* Use transaction entry for the sub-surface instead of that for its
  parent surface.
v3:

5fa4ce6fa8 wayland/surface: Use transactions for synchronized sub-surface state
Instead of cached_state.

surface_commit for a synchronized sub-surface either commits the
transaction or merges it into the parent surface's transaction (if
the parent is a synchronized sub-surface itself).

This should fix or at least improve the behaviour of nested synchronized
sub-surfaces.

Also change wl_subsurface_set_desync:

* Commit sub-surface transactions separately. This may allow some of
  them to be applied earlier in some cases.
* Commit transaction only for descendant sub-surfaces which become
  newly de-synchronized themselves.

v2:

v3:

57881ba612 wayland/subsurface: Move actor unparenting back to rebuild_surface_tree()
Unparenting the surface actor when the subsurface object is destroyed
has several issues:
 - subsurface actors can be unparented while a close animation is
   still ongoing, breaking the animation for e.g. Firefox.
 - adding and removing the actor to/from the parent is not handled in
   one place, making the code harder to follow.
 - if the destroyed subsurface had children of its own, they potentially
   stick around until a surface-tree rebuild. This makes the Firefox
   hamburger menu not close with the "compositor" backend.

Move the unparenting back to
`meta_window_actor_wayland_rebuild_surface_tree()` and instead just
notify the parent of a state change, if it still exist. This will ensure
a correct mapping between the subsurface node tree and the flat surface
actor list. In case of the closing animation the parent will already be
removed and the call is skipped.

03434e566a wayland/subsurface: Ensure cached state recursivly gets applied on set_desync()
Subsurfaces can be effectively synced indirectly via their ancestors.
Right now such indirectly synced surfaces don't apply their cached
state when their ancestor effectively becomes desync as by the time
we call `parent_state_applied()` on them, they are considered as
desync.

Thus sligthly reoder things so when the ancestors becomes desync
and applies its state, those surfaces still count as synced and
will thus apply their cached state as well.

While on it, add a check to prevent `set_desync()` to have side
effects when the target surface is not currently synced.

ba8499f9ec wayland/subsurface: Move placement ops to the parents pending state

```
ae0d48b6fd wayland/subsurface: Only show subsurface if parent is mapped
The spec states:
```
A sub-surface becomes mapped, when a non-NULL wl_buffer is applied

Don't tie frame callbacks to actor painting, as it may end up in

47002bf0cd wayland/surface: Put buffer reference on heap
Currently a buffer use count always reaches zero before it is replaced.
This is due to the fact that at the point a new buffer is attached, the
last potential user releases it (the stage) since the currently
displayed frame has a composited copy of the buffer.

This may however change, if a buffer is scanned out directly, meaning it
should not be released until the page flip callback is invoked.

Prepare for this by making the buffer reference a heap allocated struct,
enabling us to keep a pointer to it longer than the buffer is attached.

5149e1e43a wayland: Move tree updating to the shell surface role
The shell surface role is the one where subsurfaces may exist, and it
has direct relation to the MetaWindowActorWayland which currently has
the subsurface stacking logic.

Instead of directly finding the window actor when dealing with
subsurfaces, notify the parent surface that the subsurface state
changed, so that it can outsource the application of this information to
the role. For subsurface roles, this simply means forward upward to the
parent; for shell surface roles, this means regenerate the surface actor
layering.

This allows us to move away from accessing the window directly from the

windows.

934a829a57 wayland/subsurface: Keep subsurface actors reactive
The actors of Wayland subsurfaces are set to be reactive on creation,
when receiving the `wl_subcompositor.get_subsurface` request.

However, if a client creates several subsurfaces and then creates the
xdg_toplevel object after, the previous subsurface actors are reset.

As a result, Clutter picking will skip and ignore those actors in
`clutter_actor_should_pick_paint()` because they aren't marked as
reactive anymore.

An example of such a client being affected by this issue is SCTK, the
Rust library implementing client side decorations for Wayland used
internally by winit and alacritty.

Move the `set_reactive()` call from `get_subsurface()` to the subsurface
`sync_actor_subsurface_state()` vfunc to make sure those remain reactive
even after `xdg_surface.get_toplevel` is invoked.

fcfe90aa9f wayland: Replace manual GNode subsurface iteration with macro
Similar to wl_list_foreach(), add
META_WAYLAND_SURFACE_FOREACH_SUBSURFACE() that iterates over all the
subsurfaces of a surface, without the caller needing to care about
implementation details, such as leaf nodes vs non-leaf nodes.

f7e256e9a1 wayland/surface: Make cached subsurface state generic
This moves the cached subsurface surface state into the generic
MetaWaylandSurface namespace. Eventually it'll be used by other surface
roles which as well aim to implement synhcronization.

bbec8abb68 wayland/surface: Rename MetaWaylandPendingState to MetaWaylandSurfaceState
The name didn't communicate it was about surface state, and it somewhat
confusingly had the name "pending" in it, which could be confused with
the fact that while it's used to collect pending state, it's also used
to cache previously committed pending state.

8dc730e5ca wayland/surface: Move subsurface synchronization logic to role
It's an implementation detail of subsurfaces when to cache state
and when not to, so move that logic to the subsurface role
implementation.
